Today, I’ll take you to Wahindo, an antiques & curio shop situated not far from Kitano Tenmangu shrine.
Located far from Teramachi and Furu-monzen/Shin-monzen areas famous for their antique shops of different kinds, Wahindo is off the usual path of an antiques hunter, but from tiny altars to old pottery items, there is so much to discover here.
I entered the place intending to spend just a couple of minutes, to take a look, and stayed for much longer.
I found something for me too: 5 lacquered plates from the late Edo period, ￥1,000 each.
As I’m doing research on Japanese lacquerware, I’m always paying attention to it.
Example of Negoro-nuri lacquerware:
An example of kintsugi, the art of repairing broken pottery with lacquer and gold powder :
If you like Japanese crafts and you’re visiting Kitano Tenmangu (situated just a little bit to the west), don’t miss this shop!
