Wahindo, antiques & curio shop

Today, I'll take you to Wahindo, an antiques & curio shop situated in the vicinity of Kitano Tenmangu shrine.

Located far from Teramachi and Furu-monzen/Shin-monzen areas famous for their antique shops, Wahindo is off the usual path of antiques hunters, but from tiny altars to old pottery items, there is so much to discover here.

I entered the place intending to spend just a couple of minutes, to take a look, and stayed for much longer.

I found something for me too: 5 lacquered plates from the late Edo period. As I'm doing research on Japanese lacquerware, I'm always paying attention to it.

I also admired some fine examples of Negoro-nuri lacquerware and kintsugi, the art of repairing broken pottery with lacquer and gold powder.

If you like Japanese crafts and you're visiting Kitano Tenmangu (situated just a little bit to the west), don't miss this shop!
